After a disappointing exit from the Malaysia Masters, Goh Jin Wei was set to play in the Australian Open. However, she could not, as a visa issue forced her to opt out of the tournament.
The Malaysian badminton player was preparing to head to Sydney for the tournament but was forced to withdraw on Monday. She had applied for the visa three weeks ago, but it was rejected, and then last week she reapplied for it, but again faced the rejection, forcing her to withdraw from the game.
She was slated to play against Malvika Bansod in the first round of the main draw.
Jie Wei's coach, Nova Armada, opened up about the situation and provided an update on Monday, June 8.
"It's a pity because Jin Wei is already in the main draw of the Australia Open. She had to withdraw because she was unable to obtain her visa," Armada said.
The Indonesian coach of Jin Wei further added that her visa was also rejected.
"My visa application was also rejected, but I'm disappointed that Jin Wei won't be able to play in Australia. It's not easy to get the chance to play in the main draw of a Super 500 event," Armada added.
