Ahead of the Malaysia Masters, Toh Ee Wei received a major confidence boost after winning the Sportswoman of the Year award at the 2025 National Sports Awards on Monday.

She was nominated for the prestigious award alongside Tan Cheong Min, Pang Pui Yee, Emma Firyana Saroji, and Natasha Mohamed Roslan.

Ee Wei later shared a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing gratitude to her fans for their constant support in her journey. She expressed optimism for her upcoming events in the caption.

"Even small progress is still progress. You never know what’s coming next, so just keep pushing yourself to the limit. Between these two photos, a lot has happened—good or bad—but we keep going. Always Alhamdulillah, be grateful," she wrote.

Along with Ee Wei, Chen Tang Jie received the Sportsman of the Year award for his impressive outing last year. The duo became the first Malaysian team to win mixed doubles at the World Championships last year.

He was nominated alongside Si Shin Peng, Rafiq Ismail, Khairi Abib Azhar, and Abdul Aziz Ahmad. The award has given Ee Wei and Tang Jie added momentum as they prepare for the Malaysia Masters, a tournament they missed last year after temporarily going their separate ways.

And before that, they had a big win at the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia Awards.

Toh Ee Wei and Chen Tang Jie take home the SAM Awards

Earlier this month, Toh Ee Wei and Chen Tang Jie added another milestone to their journey after receiving the 2025 Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) 100 Plus Awards for Best Athletes. Following that, Wei expressed her gratitude to the Malaysian media for their constant support.

"We are very grateful to receive this award, and I want to thank the Malaysian media, who are always with us, whether at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) or during tournaments," she said.

She was also hopeful for better results in the upcoming tournaments.

"I think this is one of the motivations for us to continue moving forward and we hope to give better results from now on," she added.

The duo has had its struggles in the last few months. Tang Jie struggled with a hip injury before this week’s event, while last month, Ee Wei said that she recovered from abdominal strains.

In their last outing at the Badminton Asia Championships, they lost in the quarterfinals, but it would be interesting to see how things will unfold in this week’s event in Malaysia.

What do you think? Can Toh Ee Wei and Chen Tang Jie win their maiden Malaysia Masters?
