Malaysian mixed doubles badminton star Toh Ee Wei has broken her silence after a knee injury forced her and partner Chen Tang Jie to withdraw from the Indonesia Open.

The injury happened during their Singapore Open quarterfinal match last week against the Indian pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto. The Malaysian duo had to retire despite leading 18-16 in the opening game. Taking to social media in an image posted on X, Ee Wei shared an optimistic statement.

"Thank you for all the messages and for checking in on me. I’m doing fine, and I truly appreciate all the love and support," Toh Ee Wei wrote.

"I believe everything happens for a reason," she continued. "Hopefully, this injury is preparing me for something even bigger than I can imagine. The road to recovery won’t be easy, but I’ve walked this path before, and I’ll do it once again."

The Badminton Association of Malaysia has confirmed that Ee Wei has suffered a partial ACL tear in her left knee. They will be monitoring her closely ahead of a crucial follow-up MRI assessment next Friday.

The second scan will officially determine her exact treatment and rehabilitation schedule.

The Injury Breaks Toh Ee Wei's Great Momentum This Year

This setback comes at an incredibly frustrating time for the World No. 4 duo. Missing back-to-back major tournaments like the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open will hurt their rankings and momentum as well.

Before coming to the Singapore Open, the pair had reached the quarter-finals of four out of six tournaments they played in 2026. They started the year by reaching the final eight of the Malaysian Open, but failed to do so in the Indian Open.

However, they came back to form quickly by winning the Indonesia Masters 2026, beating the Danish pair of Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje in the final.

The pair reached the final eight in the Badminton Asia Championships and Malaysia Masters before an injury forced their retirement in Singapore.

Ee Wei’s optimistic outlook suggests this setback is only a brief pause in the pair’s climb. Having dealt with tough back and hand injuries early in her career, she knows exactly how to rebuild her strength.

What do you think Ee Wei will be able to come back to her best post-recovery? Let us know in the comments.
