Two teams are out, and two new teams are in But the path for one of them was not so simple.

The lineup for the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2026 has changed. Germany’s men’s team and France’s women’s team have pulled out of the tournament with six weeks left before the event starts in Horsens, Denmark. Two new European teams have also been added.

Finland will now take Germany’s place in the Thomas Cup, and Spain will replace France in the Uber Cup.

The tournament will run from April 24 to May 3, with 16 teams playing in each competition.

Finland’s entry was actually easy as seem. They were next in line in Europe based on world ranking, so they got the spot.

Spain’s path to the tournament was not easy. After France withdrew from the Uber Cup, the spot was offered to other European teams based on the rankings. Scotland turned it down.

Germany, which had already pulled out of the Thomas Cup, also said no. Spain, the third team in line, finally accepted the place.

Two teams refusing before one accepted shows how much these late withdrawals have affected European badminton.

Europe's Confirmed Lineup for Horsens

Europe will have five teams in the Thomas Cup, and those countries are Denmark, England, Finland, France, and Sweden.

In the Uber Cup, Europe will also have five representatives, and those are Denmark, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Ukraine, and Spain, who will compete in the women’s team event.

For Finland and Spain, this is a late but real opportunity. The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals are where national teams test themselves against the strongest countries, especially the top Asian teams.

Neither Finland nor Spain had originally qualified for the tournament in Horsens, and now they suddenly have six weeks to prepare for one of the biggest events in team badminton.

The stories of how they got in are also very different because Finland’s entry was simple, as its ranking placed it next in line. Spain’s path was harder, as it only received the spot after other teams stepped aside.

Which team do you think will make an impact in Horsens? Let us know in the comments.
