PV Sindhu Shares Lighthearted Story of Husband Coaching Her at Australian Open

via Usta

Although by profession, PV Sindhu's husband Venkata Datta Sai is a data scientist, he turned out to be her coach for a day. The Indian shuttler is in Sydney this week for the Australian Open.

In the round 16 of the tournament, which she played against fellow Indian player Isharani Baruah, Sindhu had a marvelous time on the court while her husband was by her side. A badminton fan page, which goes by the name Just Badminton on X, shared a picture of the Olympic medalist talking with her husband on the side.

She reacted by resharing the story on her social media handle and elaborated about the moment. Sindhu said that she didn't want to make it "unfair" for her opponent by calling a coach, so she called her husband, who "got promoted for the day," humorously adding that he made "his coaching debut."

"And honestly, annoyingly decent hahahaha. Came in as emotional support, got two warnings from the ref, somehow escaped without a card 馃ぃ and by the second game was reading Isha point by point almost to the tee," she wrote in her post on Thursday, June 11.

Having her husband by her side, Sindhu won against Baruah, 22-20 and 21-12. The game lasted for 42 minutes, and with it she secured her spot in the quarterfinals.

Sindhu defeated Taiwanese badminton player Chen Su Yu, 21-6, 21-9, to make it to the semifinals.

Intriguingly, this is not the first time Sindhu's candid moments with her husband have caught attention. Her husband also accompanied her on her outing to Singapore last month.

PV Sindhu鈥檚 Hilarious Take on How Singapore 'Raised' Her Husband

On May 27, PV Sindhu shared pictures of herself with her husband on her Instagram account, where she boasts around 3.9 million followers. Along with the pictures, she added an adorable caption, talking about Singapore and how it had changed her husband.

"Singapore, you raised my husband in so many beautiful ways, and gave me memories on court, love from the stands, and moments I will always smile about 鉂わ笍 India is home. Always and forever," she wrote.

PV Sindhu played at the KFF Singapore Badminton Open, which was held from May 26 to May 31 in Singapore. After defeating Putri Kusuma Wardani in the round 32, she made it to the round 16, where she had a 21-9, 21-12 win over Riko Gunji. But her journey came to an end with an unfortunate defeat against South Korean shuttler An Se Young, 21-17, 21-14.

Following that, she played at the Indonesia Open but again suffered a defeat against Young in round 16, 21-17 and 21-15. She is next preparing for the Australian Open semifinal against Akane Yamaguchi.
