Daniel Marthin was looking for a good result at the Indonesia Open 2026 but suffered an unsatisfying ending to his home event. After receiving media clearance, the Indonesian teamed up with fellow countryman Leo Rolly Carnando in the men's doubles round of 32 against Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan.
However, the duo had a disappointing start to the game and lost the first set, 16-21. But they then quickly bounced back in the second set and had eyes on the win, 21-13. But their opponents secured the win after a lead in the third set, 21-19.
With that, it marked the exit of Carnando and Marthin, who won the Thailand Open earlier this year, from the Indonesia Open. Before starting the game this week, Marthin said that he had thought of withdrawing from the Malaysia Masters due to discomfort in his leg last month. But he did give it a try, as there were "no significant issues."

Tapi akhirnya dia coba dan kemudian kalah di babak pertama Malaysia Masters.
Setelah pemeriksaan lanjutan, tidak ada kendala berarti.
Jadi…
Before arriving at the Indonesia Open, Carnando/Marthin played at the Perodua Malaysia Masters, but that also had an unwanted end after suffering a loss against the Chinese duo Hu Zhe Yuan and Lin Xiang Yi, 19-21, 21-13, 15-21 in round 32.
Daniel Marthin Wins the Thailand Open a Year After His Injury
Daniel Marthin sustained a left knee injury last year at the BWF Sudirman Cup Finals. He underwent surgery and returned to play at the Toyota Thailand Open 2026.
He and his playing partner, Leo Rolly Carnando, had an impressive run and won the men's doubles tournament last month, a year after the injury.
Marthin received praise from Carnando for his comeback from injury after their win.
"I’m definitely thrilled to be able to reach the final with Daniel again,” Carnando said. “My appreciation and respect for him for making it straight to the final in his first tournament after a year away. That’s truly impressive.”
But after the win, the duo had a terrible time, getting eliminated from the Round of 32 in two straight events. Next, their focus is on the Sathio Group Australian Badminton Open, scheduled from June 9 to 14 in Sydney, Australia.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold for Marthin at the event. What do you think? Will he make a comeback next week? Let us know in the comments.
