Veteran badminton player Chou Tien-chen became a point of discussion when badminton commentator Gill Clark compared his performance and play style to tennis legend Roger Federer in a post on X.
Clark highlighted the similarities between the two players, particularly their stamina, as both competed well into their 30s. Both have built strong reputations for continuing matches despite their physical challenges.
This comparison caught the attention of many badminton fans online, who reacted to the dedication of both players, especially Chou, who continues to remain among the top players on the circuit at the age of 36.
Federer is one of the most decorated tennis players in the history of the sport. The Swiss player won 20 Grand Slam titles and over 100 ATP singles titles during his career. He was also well known for his consistency and praised for his longevity on the tennis circuit.
Chinese Taipei's Chou has built one of the longest careers in the men's singles category of badminton. The former World No. 2 is still active, participating in BWF World Tour events despite being one of the oldest active players on the tour.
It has been noted that both players took their training and recovery phases seriously throughout their careers. They also continued playing their matches despite facing discomfort midway, "out of respect for the fans."
As a result, neither Chou nor Federer ever retired midway through a professional match to date, and this is a major reason why fans admire them beyond their achievements.
Fans' reaction to Chou Tien-chen’s commitment
The post sparked many discussions online, with fans praising Chou's commitment and passion for the sport of badminton.
One fan wrote, “I've already told you, Chou Tien Chen is married to badminton.”
Another fan reacted to his career journey and the achievements he has made despite his age:
“This CTC (Chou Tien Chen) is truly amazing. He's already 36 years old, but still active. Even earlier, there was a stat that said he's never WO/Retired during his career. And one more thing people should know, he's a cancer survivor.”
Other fans spoke about Chou's ability to entertain the crowd and the atmosphere he brings to the court:
"One of the reasons I go to Istora is because when he plays there, he's such an entertainer."
These reactions show that support for Chou on the circuit remains strong as he continues to enter major international tournaments throughout the season on the BWF World Tour.
