Chen Tang Jie and Ee Wei became the first Malaysian pair to win the mixed doubles at the World Championships last year in Paris. The duo are now preparing to defend their title later this year.
However, before that, they have a few other tournament lineups to compete in. The duo is set to play at the Malaysia Masters this week, hoping to win the championship.
Before that, they won the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia Awards.
Chen Tang Jie Thanks Toh Ee Wei for Her Support After SAM Awards Triumph
Last week, at the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia 100 Plus Awards, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei were awarded the best athletes. After the win, Tang Jie expressed gratitude to his teammate for her constant support during his injury. He revealed that he had recovered from a hip injury.
"It was a struggle for me, but I am grateful that my partner gave me time to recover before we got back on court,” Tang Jie said.
Injuries have taken a toll on Ee Wei and Tang Jie this season as they aim to defend their World Championship title in August. Last month, ahead of the Badminton Asia Championships, Ee Wei said she was dealing with abdominal strain and missed training weeks before the tournament.
They had a tough time at the event and lost to the Korean duo Kim Jae Hyeon and Jang Ha-jeong in the quarterfinal. The duo is now preparing for the Malaysia Masters scheduled from May 19 to 24.
