Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia is in a crisis of confidence. With the crucial Thomas Cup approaching, a national legend is stepping in to help. Lee Chong Wei has offered a helping hand to guide him through this tough phase.

The former world No. 1 believes Zii Jia is battling a severe crisis of confidence after a series of disappointing performances in Europe, including early exits at the Swiss Open and the Orléans Masters. The Malaysian has fallen in form since then. to world No. 86, which raised concerns before the Thomas Cup in Denmark.

Chong Wei pointed to both physical and mental factors behind the slump. “Lingering ankle and back injuries remain a factor, but the Olympic bronze medalist appears unsure of himself," the medalist said, highlighting how confidence has become the bigger issue in recent matches.

Despite the struggles, Chong Wei remains optimistic about a turnaround. “He simply needs a single victory at any level to restore his self-belief and regain his competitive feel for the game,” he explained, stressing that one breakthrough result could shift momentum quickly.

In a bid to support the player, Chong Wei has also offered direct help. “I have extended an open invitation for him to return to Academy Badminton Malaysia for expert guidance and second training support,” he said.

Lee Zii Jia appears as a timely boost before a crucial team event

The timing of this intervention is important. Malaysia is getting ready for a tough Thomas Cup campaign, where being consistent in singles will be very important. Lee Zii Jia, who used to be a reliable player in the lineup, is now under pressure to get back into the swing of things before the tournament starts.

Because of his recent drop, the team has had to rethink how they use him and rely more on other players. The team is good, but Zii Jia's lack of confidence makes them less sharp in close games.

At the same time, the management of the team has chosen to be helpful. The focus is still on getting better slowly over time instead of getting results right away. Chong Wei's participation brings experience and calmness to the situation, giving Zii Jia a voice he knows during a tough time.

The Thomas Cup is coming up quickly, and every practice and game is very important. A quick return to form could still change Malaysia's campaign and bring the team back into balance.
