After beating the Indian Star at the Swiss Open, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting Shares Key to Success

240731 -- PARIS, July 31, 2024 -- Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia competes during the badminton men s singles group play stage match against Toma Junior Popov of France at Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Olympische Spiele, Olympia, OS in Paris, France, July 31, 2024. Anthony Sinisuka Ginting had to work very hard for this win. Interestingly, the match went to three games, and he almost lost the second one, but he still managed to come through in the end.

Wins like this do not happen because of skill alone, because a lot of mental strength is also needed.

The Indonesian men’s singles player reached the semifinals of the Swiss Open 2026 on March 14 after beating India’s Tarun Naal in a three-game match.

Although the result shows a win for Ginting, the match was not easy at all.

Naal kept pushing from the first rally to the last. Because of that, Ginting had to stay calm and fight hard, especially in the final game, to close the match.

After the match, Ginting spoke about what helped him win. His comments, shared by Badminton Indonesia on X, clearly explained what made the difference in the end.

"I just wanted to improve my play," Ginting said. "Because Tarun's attack was good today. From the first set to the last set, he tried to push as much as possible. In the second set, I got the hang of it. But I was far behind, so I couldn't do it. But I kept trying, and in the third set, I was able to maximize my play."

That change in the third game became the real turning point. Ginting realized that what he was doing before was not working, so he made a small change and played with more control. In the end, that decision helped him win the match.

Alwi Farhan's Earlier Breakthrough Makes Ginting's Win Even Bigger for Indonesia

Alwi Farhan had already reached the semifinals before Ginting played his match. When Ginting also won, it became clear that Indonesia now had two men’s singles players in the semifinals of the Swiss Open 2026.

This also means that an all-Indonesian final is now only one match away.

One Indonesian badminton fan on X explained the feeling very well. Ginting did not just win the match. Interestingly, he also managed to get through the whole tournament without injury forcing him to stop, which has been a real problem for him in recent seasons.

He had to withdraw from the 2026 Indonesia Masters due to a "waist lock" that required intensive physiotherapy. He also missed roughly six months of the 2025 season after undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder injury he originally sustained just before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Because of that, reaching the semifinals while fully fit feels much more important than a normal quarterfinal win.

For Indonesian badminton fans, having two players in the semifinals is not just a good result. It feels like a strong statement from Indonesian badminton.
