Winning the prestigious All England Open should be the pinnacle of a player's year. For Lin Chun-yi, however, the victory came with a surprising catch. Despite his career-defining win, he still found himself looking up at the world's best in the latest BWF rankings.
Despite winning the prestigious 2026 All England Open title, Lin Chun-yi fell short in reaching the top spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) men’s singles rankings, ranked world No.8.
The rankings simply show how competitive it is, just to stay in the top 10, with the leading standings being Kunlavut Vitidsarn at World No. 1, followed by Shi Yuqi at No. 2 and Anders Antonsen at No. 3

Further ahead of Lin are more experienced names such as Chou Tien-Chen and Chinese star Li Shifeng, both players who built their ranking steadily over the season, which says that winning the All England title once is not enough; to reach the top, you need to stay consistent with it.
The Career-Defining Raise For Chun-Yi
While the title itself wasn’t enough to take him to World No. 1, it was a career-defining rise for Chun-Yi; he defeated Lakshya Sen in straight games, 21-15, 22-20, in the finals to secure the title.
Lin dominated, taking control of the opening game and being really sharp with his hits. Lakshya had spent significantly more time on the court, struggling to match Lin’s pace at the start.
The matches continued with both players pushing each other to their maximum limits, although it ended with a major upset, with Chun-Yi defeating Lakshya, not just by his speed and skill, but also by outthinking his opponent.
As he continues to grow into a better form, this win could mark a major milestone in his career and establish him as a top player on the global badminton circuit.
